17 Oct Avalon Yarnes – Beatrice, The Over Ambitious Cake Lady
The Over Ambitious Cake Lady
Beatrice, an overly ambitious cake lady, who dabbles in a little witch craft on the side, spread herself a little too thin this Cake International Eve. As every caker knows, our best moves are not usually made at 3am the night before a cake is due and in desperation she reached for her spell book to enchant this cake to win-worth perfection. But with a slip of the tongue… well, the story goes…
“Twas the morn of CI not a comp piece was finished
Her chance of a placing or medal diminished
Until out of nowhere
A spell book appeared.
“If my cake is enchanted, I can win!” She cheered.
She rushed out a spell but yelled “HOUSE” ‘stead of “MOUSSE”
And with that one word all hell broke loose.
Demons and ghouls crushed her prize winning dreams
Instead she was haunted with Eternal Sugar Screams”
-Poem by Maria McDonald
The Making of Beatrice
She was created in both the the United States and Ireland. Her body was started in Ireland with the structure and foam body base by the fabulous Corinna Maguire (special thank you!!), while the head and hands were sculpted in the US by Avalon and then strapped into a carry-on suitcase and brought over to Ireland. Avalon then spent the next 6 days taking over Corinna’s kitchen to finish her up! Avalon states that she took about 3 weeks, with one week devoted to simply trying to research and get the rolling eye mechanism actually working. The eyes were chocolate and the “lenses” were gelatin. The mechanism ran into multiple snafus’ but just in the nick of time, started working perfectly!
