In 1916 Mary the 5 Ton circus Elephant was marching with the performers in a parade as they entered a new town.  Apparently Mary was fed up with her mistreatment and she threw her trainer off of her back and crushed his skull under her foot. Mary was tried in court and publicly hanged from a crane. She became known as Murderous Mary and although her life was taken, she isn’t finished punishing those that continue to wrong elephants in captivity.
